2020 has undoubtedly been a whirlwind of a year, especially for fashion. Although the ‘stay at home,’ style was a necessity for us all, and our pyjama collection has never come so handy, a new wave of trends is forecasting this year, where we are ditching the sweatpants, and finally feeling good about ourselves.

Oversized Leather Bomber Jackets

A flattering and effortless look, leather bomber jackets are storming into 2021 with a bang, paired with any outfit, the oversized look is flawlessly styled by Olivia Neill with some baggy jeans and a statement trainer. Check out your local charity shops for some great finds and you are more than likely to discover a vintage treasure hidden away amongst those shelves. To me, this trend has ricocheted in the past few months, and with 2021 on the horizon and a mini dress not the best attire in the frosted air, this jacket is perfect for an effortlessly chic look, channeling your inner Kendall Jenner and showing off them legs even in Winter!

Resin Rings

My favourite piece to come out of 2020 is the La Manso rings. Each design entailing a new story behind the bold colour schemes and sparkled exterior, these rings are yet to leave our jewellery boxes. Influencers such as Mathilde Mellor being one of the many to model the pieces, and notably highlight small brands such as Alerria jewellery, who creates similar pieces at an affordable price with a unique twist styled in each ring. From strawberry gems to jelly tots, the sixteen-year-old girl powering her own business through her creation of hand-crafted rings, is one of the many talented young men and women to create their own company from the palm of their hand. Alerria’s elegance crossed funk undeniably expresses individuality through such a small statement item, perfect for pairing with a long sleeved dress and knee-high boots.

Funky Knits

With brands like House of Sunny introducing the pastel faux-fur collared cardigans, sites such as ASOS and Zara have stepped up their game in replicating this chic design. Mastering our inner Harry Styles with an oversized patterned knit and low waist, flared jeans, models such as Bella Hadid have jumped on this trend already. Being a sustainable brand to follow, House of Sunny’s ‘Daybreak Cardi,’ is a fresh design soon to be in our closets, and has been clouding our Instagram feeds already. Standing at a high price, it’s simple to find a similar, yet gorgeous piece on Zara for less than half the price, and still just as effortlessly funky.

Afghan Faux Fur Coats

A 60s trend making a comeback, these faux fur coats are perfect for Winter and the colder months, with brands such as Charlotte Simone bringing the popular trend into 2021. Paired with denim or a patterned shoulder bag, the jacket poses an immediate eye on the streets and an effortless, glam look if styling up or down. The trend has been replicated by brands like Jaded London, hopping onto the growing trend with their ‘Patchwork Faux Fur Coat,’ perfect for a Charlotte Simone replica if like me, you do not have the money or the heart to spend over £200 on one piece. If so, head to Depop, where sellers are expressing this unique 60s trend for a lot cheaper, and even better, second hand.

Mesh Patchwork Tops

When nights out become possible again, this Depop creation will be the look on the streets, with small sellers using recycled materials to create these bold statement pieces. This piece can create any outfit from casual to glam in seconds, and with the mesh base, can be paired with a black bralette under a funky pattern, or can be layered with another top, especially during the colder seasons.

Faux Leather Platform Boots

Worn by models like Kaia Gerber and Gigi Hadid, these boots are made for walking! Found from Dr Martens’ vegan range and with replicas on ASOS and Zara, this statement shoe can be paired with some baggy trousers for a casual shopping look or can be glammed up with a dainty dress and some black checked tights. My pair from Public Desire are a blessing in disguise, providing me with not just a few extra inches, but a boot that can be worn with quite literally everything, and I know, will last me a lifetime.

Neutral Everything!

This is undoubtedly the most notable trend to have come from 2020 and entering the new year. From brown tennis skirts to faux leather trousers, brown on brown is the new denim on denim and trust me, we are all for it. Pairing alternative neutral shades for an effortless study look, or a simple brown statement piece, the colour screams sophisticated. Forget about Brandy Melville’s brown hoodies, go to your nearest charity shop or Depop to look for a second hand one instead. During this pandemic, online shopping and over buying from fast fashion brands is something we are all aware of doing once before, however, secondhand buying is crucial for helping the environment and even saving your own money. Just type in neutral on Depop and you’ll discover an array of replicas from brands like Topshop, for half the price and the same – if not new – condition, it’s like Christmas all over again.

2021 is our year, our year for self discovery and self love, and we’re not giving into this one without a fight.
